Throwing Stones At The Establishment, WestWing, and The Astros

So discontent with the legal establishment seems to be a prevailing theme this week.

As linked in an earlier post, NBC has announced that this will be the final season of the political soap-drama Westwing. I know for many law students, my self included, many-a-class have been missed to watch Westwing marathons. I lost the better part of a semester when the law school library got the complete series on DVD.

Sunday's episode "Duck and Cover" was one of the better episodes aired since creator Aaron Sorkin left the writing staff. Penned by former Gore speech writer Eli Attie, the episode mixed and balanced issues including nuclear energy politics, politicizing tragedy, and executive handling of domestic crisis. Anyone who religiously watched coverage of the Katrina disaster had to be running dual plot lines in their heads while watching Sunday's episode.

The Astros have announced that they will file an insurance claim on Jeff Bagwell's contract. Much like the Roger Clemens situation they were forced into in December, the Astros are facing a difficult PR position. Do what is undoubtedly best for the club at the expense of one of the classiest ballplayers and the face of the franchise? Or pay Bagwell 15 Million to hit once or twice a game. If the insurance doctors determine that Bagwell can no longer throw/play, Bagwell's career will be over.

Finally I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of John Rammington who passed away on Sunday. John worked at the front desk of the Law School library for over 20 years. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and open-minded. I had many a discussion with him on my way out from the library at 2AM during finals cramming sessions.

Alright, back to the grind.....two more weeks.
