Your little house on Memory Lane

The weekend is approaching and the last of my travels will have completed. But before I go...

Bill Frist has officially unofficially tossed his hat into the ring for the 2008 presidential race by choosing to be his own man and force a confrontation with the White House on Stem Cell Research.
Stem Cell Research (SCR), also known as Abortions nerdy cousin, has been the back up fight for Pro-Lifers for a few years now. When they aren't flexing their first amendment right (which the ACLU has fought to protect) to picket in front of clinics, many Lifers have adopted Stem Cell research as the next worse thing. In what was surely part of his plan to rally the religious right, Bush embraced the pro-lifers stance; however, since Reagan's death, the door has been open for some more moderate conservatives to make this issue less about partisanship and more about facts and science. As such, Dr. Frist is using this opportunity, as well as his medical background to start wrangling in supporters under his tent (not to mention make his self more visible).

The mortal God of baseball will be inducted into the Hall-of-Fame this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if he announces a deal being made during his acceptance speech. For as long as I can remember, I have always view Peter Gammons as a deity. I can't really explain why. Maybe it's his demeanor. Maybe its his musical taste. Maybe it was the excerpt from Moneyball. Surely it has something to do with his unparallelled diamond notes. Either way, this guy could probably be an incredible GM. Former GM Steve Phillips has already confessed that Gammons knew way more about what was going on than he did back when he was stationed at the front office. Congrats Lord Gammons.

Finally, the Astros look to continue their winning ways after an incredible win last night. Tonight they'll look to Wandy Rodriguez to continue to improve his focus on the mound.

Good weekends to all.
