Biting the Hand that Feeds you

The money has been coming in steadly for Alberto Gonzalez. Prolly becuase GW is nipping the far right in the bud. So is the far right uppity about the potential Al G. nomination becuase they fear he's a liberal in sheeps clothes; or is this really a game of managing expectations?

More to the point, could the right be putting up a fake (or Rove induced) challenge to Gonzalez in order to shift the mindset of the Dems? For example, wouldn't limosine liberal Larry be more inclined to favor Alberto Gonzalez if he thought the people at R-cubed (radical religious right) hated him with a passion? It's an interesting proposition.
